I'm going to take December to work on some short stories, work more on my fictional town, and fix up the website. I'd like to have a Christmas story written and posted here before Christmas, but I haven't even started writing it yet, so I don't know if that's really feasible or not. Hopefully there will be some stories coming soon though! Then in January, I'll start revising my novel. It's going to need some pretty heavy revising, but at least the first draft is done!
Halfway through the month, and halfway through my novel! I’m currently at 25,120 words, so slightly over halfway to the 50,000 word goal! And still going strong. I am trying to figure out a few things along the way, which makes it harder to get ahead as much as I’d like to. I’m trying to figure out how exactly I want this relationship to struggle, and if I need to introduce more external conflict or not. But I keep reminding myself there’s always the next draft! This is the rough draft, and written in a month. It’s supposed to be bad! So I’ll keep plowing ahead and fully intend to finish the novel this month! And eventually, once I’ve done a lot of revisions, publish it. I don’t know what sort of time frame to expect, since this is my first novel, but it’s exciting to know I want to go that route. So hopefully sometime next year, I’ll be a published author!
I caught up on what I missed Sunday and got my word count where it should be. The target word count for the end of the day is 5000, and I’m finishing with 5014. It feels great to be a little ahead, and makes this seem more possible. I am trying to work through some plot difficulties, and not let myself get bogged down in research while trying to sort it out. I tend to research things to death, which is not the way to succeed at NaNoWriMo! All that can wait for December.
Day 2 of NaNoWriMo and I’m playing catch-up. I woke up yesterday with what felt like the flu, so my plans for fitting in writing spurts went out the window. I managed to get out 268 words out of desperation. I couldn’t think straight, but I also couldn’t not write anything, so I got out the very beginning at least.
Today, I’ve felt better, but still pretty sick. I’ve been really going at the writing though, in between chasing kids. I ended up with a word count of 3030. Not quite as much as I had hoped, but still decent and better than expected. Hopefully I can catch up tomorrow!
I’m using Scharffen Berger chocolate pieces as writing incentives. I get a couple of piece after every 500 words. Each piece is about the size of two chocolate chips, so it’s a nice taste, but not too much.
